A 24-year-old mixed martial arts fighter was stabbed three times in the back in New York by a former gym member who had been previously banned from the facility.

The incident took place around 11 a.m. on May 10 at Radical Mixed Martial Arts, a combat and self-defense gym located on West 29th Street near Seventh Avenue in Manhattan’s Chelsea neighborhood, according to Patch.

Caleb Perry, 23, allegedly entered the gym looking for management before getting into a physical altercation with the victim, according to police. During the confrontation, Perry pulled out a knife and stabbed the fighter multiple times in the back.

A police source told New York Post that Perry’s gym membership had been revoked last year for undisclosed reasons. He was subdued by fellow gym members and arrested at the scene without further incident.

The victim was transported to Bellevue Hospital in stable condition.

Perry has been charged with attempted murder, assault, and burglary.

He remained in custody as of Saturday.
